Blind Fashion
Ofcourse everyone is aware of the Indian caste system, which is still somewhat entrenched in their culture today. The lowest of the castes are the "Untouchables", who do wonderful chores for society like cleaning up everyone's shit and breathing asbestos. In some cases, if a person of a higher caste or one of their possessions comes into contact with an Untouchable, they go through rigorous purifying ceremonies, or even kill the filthy insolent Untouchable in question. You are born into Untouchability, although if you happen to have the unfortunate luck of being blind or disabled you're lumped in there as well. Apparently foreigners, since they don't belong anywhere, are also Untouchable (a deserving fate for many European backpackers).
Anyway, what was I saying? Oh yes, recently a group of more than 30 blind Indian ladies were coached on etiquette, how to dress themselves, the art of applying make-up and taught to walk down a runway unassisted by choreographers. They wore glittering designer saris and strutted down a catwalk in the first fashion show of its kind infront of 200 people.
Ekta, 23:
"I cannot see how I am looking in the new clothes but I am having a good time."
Shweta Kothari, 25:
"We are young, beautiful and hope to do more shows to gain confidence to fight the darkness of our lives."

At the risk of sounding condescending - I think this is wonderful!

The first two Indian ladies seem like they are having the time of their life.
I'm a little upset by this though. These women are blind and they are being given a lovely opportunity that shows them how to "look" good. What a disgrace.
Give them something better like an Indian Guide Dog. I don't know whether they have Indian Guide Dogs and at the risk of sounding racist (which I am not) an alternative could be a Seeing Eye Elephant.
Rambling. Yes?
